"The Great Flood"

 16th March 2008

followed by the sequel

 "The Big Drain"

Sunday 16th March, the river rose following overnight storms. Lower Barnwell lock still drained, no where for the water to escape so river rose and so did the Marina. After 3 hours the EA re-flooded Lower Barnwell and diverted the river at Upper Barnwell, normality was one again established. Both club members & marina staff set to in correcting boats that were left in precarious positions.

During the following week the reverse happened. The dam at lower Barnwell burst and as the water flow had been blocked at Upper Barnwell the water drained away and practically emptied the marina, whilst considerably lowering the river. Some boats were resting on the bottom. After a few hours the EA corrected the situation and the boats were refloated.
